Letting The Side Down...

or batting for the other team?

Oh dear Ladies, I've let you down and bought not one but TWO full price high street items. You've got my address to send the hate mail to...

oops, I bought a brand new bag from Clarks. But, I totally fell in love with it, everything about it perfect, apart from the fact it isn't vintage. It's got a great Jackie O vibe.

and then

Uh oh!! New shoes! From Office. These are my dream shoes. They're just like ones I had when I was for primary school, except mine were black. Clarks did a range called Magic Steps - here's the advert. Even a hardened Tom Boy like me wanted a pair - they had a key in a bubble in the heel.

Ok so that's it for my high street spending. Hopefully you'll forgive me, but seriously those shoes are the cat's nipples and the bag is luscious.

I was extremely lucky to recieve a parcel of happiness from the supremely talented Lucy.

She sent me this utterly stunning 60s/70s dress with pussy bow and sheer sleeves. It's bloody gorgeous - like Lucy herself and fits like a dream.
I was wearing the hat because it was snowing out there today!
She also sent...
This beautiful scarf/necklace is being modelled by Ruby. I'm going to attach my National Trust Volunteer Card to it.

Love this 80s minty green home knit jumper too!

If that wasn't enough, another blogger - the amazing Em of Ivy Black Chat sent me a parcel too.

A treasure tin of rik rak, pom poms, an undead lego lady and a pink plastic poodle.

More dye... what will I transform? Apart from my hands which I always manage to stain when dying clothes.

and

a 50s doll... she has neither clothes nor a name yet, poor girl, it's bitterly cold out there right now.

Thank you so much Em and Lucy!

I haven't bought much in charity shops, although my recent band has be negated by the amount I just spent on those shoes and that bag!

I wasn't looking for a liberty scarf but this one was 95p! I was however, looking for yellow nail varnish and this one was 50p - both from charity shops.
Loads of bloggers collect fantabulous psychedellic flower print bed linen, I haven't found any recently but this gorgeous Indian print cover from John Lewis caught my eye. It's probably late 80s

and erm, there's might not have many fans... apart from Em, who is my partner in granny shoe crime! I like their 40s look...

That's it for the moment. I've worked out how to upload songs to Youtube. Here's one my my most favourite songs ever. I find his voice exquiste. It's just beautiful . I took the photo too.
Have a great week

Sometimes you just gotta! Don't feel bad unless you really cant afford it and then who am I to say anything. I'm not a huge fan of nude but I can see why you were smitten with both. The Mary Janes are really so sweet and versatile~ you will get loads of wears out of them. I love patent anything really! That blue frock is really incredible on you holy sweet Mary, Lucy did you so right!

Snuggles to Ruby, what a love! Em has also sent you some love, what will you dye next? Off to have a listen to your video.

Hey, we've all be known to buy new - sometimes we need a guilty pleasure, especially since charity shopping is so guilt-free! I love the new, new shoes and can wholly relate to that nostalgia urge, having coveted and owned a pair of red patent shoes very similar to yours when I was in grade one! Love the Indian-motif quilt and Liberty scarf. So nice to get lotsa gifties in the post too. :) xoxo

You simply ARE a freakin' princess baby!!!! I love the colour and shiny, shiny, shininess of your Magic Steps - you deserve to get the golden key, not a telling off! Parcels of joy - oh glory be - I LOVE the Lego zombie and pink poodle, while your Liberty scarf and new cover are delishioso darling - I predict a distinct gyspy-kawaii vibe taking the world by storm soon, thanks to you:) xoxoxoxox

Oh hell Claire, I buy new stuff too - not as much as I used to, but it's nearly impossible for me to find shoes that fit secondhand. The shoes and bag are adorable (patent - yay!). And look at all the lovely stuff you got in the mail!!

PinkCheetahVintage said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

You're so funny! I totally buy new stuff, too!! The bag and shoes look very you-- enjoy them. I don't wear what you call granny shoes, but I do have a penchant for granny dresses. What fun stuff you got!!
Lovely song you shared and the photo you took looks like the perfect day.

I think we will excuse you for buying shoes & that bag from retail stores. Shoes are the one thing I can't seem to skimp on. I LOVE both shoes, I have a fondness for Granny shoes too, & I always seem to find them with my tiny feet. I LOVE your parcels of joy too...especially that frock. It looks wonderful on you. Xx

Feck it, darl, so bloody what?! If you have some spare dosh, and it's what you want, why ever not?! Those shoes are KILLER gorgeous! I would likely go and throw down some cash for them myself!!!
Ha, I love Granny shoes too, they're perfect for when I've killed my poor feet or just have to walk a lot. They don't scare me one bit!
SQUEE for more Parcels of Joy!!! Such treats! Spoilt tart!!!
I'm such a loser, I didn't wear my lemon nailpolish this Summer....and now it's about over...poo.
O, the new frock is divoon, a splendid choice by the gorgeous Lucy. Great colour, print and style! Rocking with that fabularse hat!!!
I want to squeeze you!

I've got such awful feet that granny shoes are starting to look very attractive to me! But I do like your new shoes and bag - hey, what's wrong with treating yourself now and again!

You don't have to feel guilty, those shoes and bag are amazing!! My own ideal style is mixing vintage clothes with new accessories! Lucy's dress is awesome and I'm a huge fan of furry dr zhivago hats, it's perfect with the shoes and the beautiful colors of the dress! Ruby is too cute with the scarf, he looks like a plush dog!
Emma sent you a great parcel too, I love the pink poodle and all those bits and bobs, can't wait to see what you are going to make with them!
As I saw the doll I named her Angela, I just don't know why but I experienced a spiritual connection with her and she's begging you for a coat and a hat!(that's what she asked), anyway she's very beautiful!
Love xxxxxxxx

I love Clarks, so how can I blame you.
Loving you in that blue perfect dress. I can tell you are awaiting spring in your front door, Lol
Great bargains.

If you can afford it then buy away, if everyone was as stingy as me then we'd have no shops other than Poundland and chazzas left!
I love that dress from Lucy, it's gorgeous on you especially with the Second To None hat! Ruby looks like an Indian princess in her sari and the scarf, nail polish and bed cover are ace.
Lusting after Em's poodle and dying to see what you transform with that dye - if it's a bra make sure you model it.

Fantastic treasures, from the post and the shops! I like how the doll has her legs spread. Shocking. And that dress, especially with those tights. Gorgeous.

Love the shoes and the rest !

You'll get endless mileage from the bag and shoes - they are two things you really can justify buying new, whether you have the funds or not. It's the quality I miss when buying new, because I can't afford new clothes from Regent Street!
Great quality bag and shoes there, so all is forgiven.
Isn't it great knowing you have someone out there who can send you a pink plastic poodle, naked doll and some dye and other pretty things? When does that happen outside the blog world?
So pleased the dress looks as good (no, better) than I thought it would.
I'm sure that scarf will look great with your tinted glasses in work, Haha.

PS I wanted those key shoes so much, the advert pulled me right in as a young impressionable girl. I never did have a pair though, despite living in Clark's shoes until I was about 16! I like granny shoes too, I'll show you my collection of Van Deals one day!

Ha! My granny shoe, creepy doll loving twin, that Lucy dress is fecking stunning. I love those Clarks shoes and I recall the bonkers ad which was pretty much what was going on in my head from 1971 until.... well now really! They are great and we all buy new from time to time. Has to be done. That bag is a cracker too.
Beautiful song.
Loves ya lots.

must be a trend: I bought new shoes on Sunday. I have a heck of a time finding shoes second hand (i wear a size 10), and when I do they're usually beaten to hell. Love the black pair, they look comfy

Lucy Nation said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

You got the shoes you naughty little girl!!!! Not really, there is such a dearth of interesting stuff out there that sometimes when something unique comes along that's within your reach you've just got to go for it. You're so lucky getting these lovely parcels. The dress is fabulous and the 50's doll just needs to be displayed in pride of place on your bedroom shelf. I'm listening to this song as I type. It's very beautiful. I've never concentrated on folk music much, being a bit of a die hard fan of intellectual Byronesque goth boys, but maybe you can do me a compilation!! ;)

PS. Still want magic shoes :(

Right, that's it. We can clearly no longer be friends, and I am going to do a blog post about you now to express my horror and disappointment. Goodbye.

pastcaring said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Ha, only joking! You buy whatever you like, love, it's your money! Shoes are the thing for me, I want want want some decent shoes and sandals which don't hurt, accommodate my advancing bunion, but look half-decent, and I can't find them in charity shops. I may yet succumb to retail myself!
(But not Granny shoes, I can't go that far!)
The frock from Luce is spectacularse on you, Ruby suits that scarf, and I am looking forward to seeing what you dye Intense Violet... Bra! Bra!
Poor naked dolly, get her some clothes. Em and Lucy are gems, aren't they?
Can't say no to a Liberty print and that bedding is fab.
Lovely song, I'm a sad old folky type really, I appreciate a bit of a melancholy lyric and guitar strumming.
PS. You on for Cardiff sometime later in the year? xxxxx

Oh gawd, I'm always succumbing to the high street. I splurged in H&M just the other day! It is allowed :-)

That dress from Luce is gorgeous, and the knit. I wish I could judge what I think other people would like/fit but I don't think I have the eye. I still haven't posted those few bits to you, I will try to do it tomorrow. You and dolly are hardcore posing with so few layers, I am SICK of this fecking weather. I sneaked to the cinema today while the kids were at school and it was warm and Spring-like, came out to a bloody blizzard!

xx

I never was allowed Clark's magic steps- they weren't sensible shoes (no patent allowed!) but I did get Ticktocks with the ball game in the bottom! Nice dress from Ms Nation! You look beautiful!
The bag is super cute too!xx

Don't feel bad about those amazing shoes! Were I to have spied them in a retail shop they would be on my feet in a second. They are beautiful. I also dig those granny shoes. I have no shame in being a granny lover.

Misfits Vintage said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

OOOoh the shoes the shoes the shoes!!! Do they come in other colours? I'm going to check the minute I finish this comment...

The parcels are both fab - aren't we lucky!? - and you look amazing in the fab frock (and the hat looks perfect with EVERYTHING).
